New research finds previously elusive clues on how to track success in implementing mindfulness meditation.
“She pushes me under the water quickly, but there’s no violence to it,” writes Luke Babb in a searing encounter with the spirit world. “Still, I panic. I hold my breath, struggle against her, but this is the sort of thing she is. I am the sort of thing that breathes, and so, despite my body’s stubborn refusal, eventually my lungs pull in and I taste the water in the back of my throat.”
New research shows that mindfulness—a common and central meditation practice in many Pagan spiritual paths—not only helps manage pain, but also engages distinct brain mechanisms beyond the placebo effect.
Halo Quin returns with new insights into making daily practice work for Pagans with ADHD. “Just as I can use a walking cane to go further than my dodgy joints allow unsupported, I can also use techniques to support myself in managing my ADHD brain. And so I’ve built a daily(ish) practice which supports me, strengthens my skills, and works with my brain instead of against it!”
My dad used to say he meditated by painting. I say I meditate by writing, but it’s not only that. I write to find a connection with something higher, bigger than myself, a purpose and a passion that makes me feel alive. Writing is the first and foremost manifestation of Witchcraft for me.
