Review: “High Priest: The Father of American Witchcraft” by Jason Mankey

By Manny Moreno | May 18, 2025

Jason Mankey’s High Priest offers a candid, compassionate portrait of Raymond Buckland — tracing his evolution from RAF serviceman to pioneering Witch — while honoring his legacy and confronting the myths, contradictions, and innovations that helped shaped American Paganism as we see it today.

On the Practice of Initiation in Modern Witchcraft

By Storm Faerywolf | May 17, 2025

The idea of initiation into Witchcraft has always fascinated me. Stories and images abound of arcane rites performed in the cloak of darkness lit only by candles flickering in the night – a death of the old life, and a birth of a new one.

Review: Raven Grimassi’s “Crafting a Tradition of Witchcraft”

By Alan U. Dalul | May 16, 2025

Fire burns as long as we take care of it, recognize what it needs, and how to keep it alive. We can’t do it the same way during summer and winter. Raven Grimassi also kept this in mind. A tradition doesn’t stay frozen in time, but grows with its members as they shape its ideas and work.

Tarot of the Week

Deck: The Field Tarot, by Hannah Elizabeth Fofana, published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc.

Card: Three (3) of Wands

The next seven days are apt to focus on advancing plans and projects that may call for dreaming large. Confidence in one’s ability to not only ride the wave of momentum that has been created, but to continue to devote energy and resources to maintain it is indicated. There is also the potential for multiple options for expansion to be presented that either may not have existed before or that went unnoticed. Dedication and sustained efforts have the potential to offer major dividends.

In contrast, while opportunities for furthering current endeavors may be available, the tendency to lean towards more conservative options has the potential to limit or even stifle growth. Unexpected delays are likely to cause frustration, particularly if projected plans for progress were unrealistic or not thoroughly plotted and researched. Taking extra time to fully assess plans and trusting the intuition can help to minimize possible delays and avoid obstacles.
