The American Family Association is advancing a strategy to reshape the federal judiciary by promoting judges who adhere to a strict Christian worldview—raising alarms among LGBTQ+, Pagan, and minority communities concerned about religious freedom, pluralism, and constitutional integrity.

Light, Legacy, and Cybele: New Clues at the Kastas Tomb

A new study reveals the Kastas Tomb in Amphipolis was aligned with the winter solstice, linking it to ancient solar rituals and the cult of Cybele—suggesting it served as a cosmic tribute to Hephaestion, Alexander the Great’s closest companion.

Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith Warns Of A “state-corporate-pagan alliance” Sacrificing Children

Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith warns of a so-called “Pagan Conquest” tied to Pride Month, claiming a “state-corporate-pagan alliance” promotes “ritual child sacrifice—with glitter and hashtags” as part of a campaign to “reprogram society” and undermine traditional values.

Editorial: Supreme Court returns victory for religious freedom, but 4-4 split leaves us on the razor’s edge

The Supreme Court deadlocked on a case that could have led to taxpayers funding religious schools. But while advocates for the separation of church and state celebrate, Weekend Editor Eric O. Scott notes the decision does not resolve the issue.

    By Eric O. Scott

  • Here we go again: David Brooks’s misuse of “paganism” as a cultural corruption
    By Manny Moreno

In an age where religious minorities — especially Pagans — already face real marginalization, suspicion, and in some cases, violence, Brooks’s carelessness, and by proxy, The New York Times's carelessness for publishing it with little editorial concern,  is irresponsible.

Pagan Living

  • Classics of Pagan Cinema: The Cauldron of Cerridwen and “The Sword in the Stone”
    By Meg Elison

The legend is always changing from one thing to another, being gobbled up and sweated out, being birthed into new life with new names, being boiled up in the cauldron of Ceridwen to become what it must be next.

Jason Mankey’s High Priest offers a candid, compassionate portrait of Raymond Buckland — tracing his evolution from RAF serviceman to pioneering Witch — while honoring his legacy and confronting the myths, contradictions, and innovations that helped shaped American Paganism as we see it today.

Pagan Perspectives

  • Witches and Emerald Walls
    By Sheri Barker

I am one of many good Witches. At any given time, any one of us might feel like we are short on heart, brain, or courage, but I assure you, as I do my companions, that that is not the case. It is okay to rest. It is okay to cry. It is okay to rage.

  • On the Practice of Initiation in Modern Witchcraft
    By Storm Faerywolf

The idea of initiation into Witchcraft has always fascinated me. Stories and images abound of arcane rites performed in the cloak of darkness lit only by candles flickering in the night - a death of the old life, and a birth of a new one.

Tarot of the Week

Deck: The Star Tarot, by Cathy McClelland, published by REDFeather, Mind, Body Spirit, an imprint of Schiffer Publishing, Ltd.

Card: Knight of Cups

The next seven days are apt to focus on advancing plans and projects that may call for dreaming large. Confidence in one’s ability to not only ride the wave of momentum that has been created, but to continue to devote energy and resources to maintain it is indicated. There is also the potential for multiple options for expansion to be presented that either may not have existed before or that went unnoticed. Dedication and sustained efforts have the potential to offer major dividends.

In contrast, while opportunities for furthering current endeavors may be available, the tendency to lean towards more conservative options has the potential to limit or even stifle growth. Unexpected delays are likely to cause frustration, particularly if projected plans for progress were unrealistic or not thoroughly plotted and researched. Taking extra time to fully assess plans and trusting the intuition can help to minimize possible delays and avoid obstacles.
