From the earliest times our ancestors have welcomed the rebirth of the sun at the darkest point of the year. In the same spirit we gather to first mourn the death of the sun and let go of that which is ending and dying. Then, through a ceremony which symbolically enacts the turning of the year from darkness to light, we celebrate the fact that life will ever spring up in a new dawn.”
