Opinion: A Modest Proposal for Banning Christian Athletes from Men’s Sports

By Karl E. H. Seigfried | July 24, 2026

Rather than obsessing over the miniscule number of transgender athletes in women’s sports, fairness-minded politicians like Ken Paxton should focus on the pandemic of unregulated divine intervention in men’s sports.

Joe Pepitone and the Long Shadow of Abuse

By Karl E. H. Seigfried | March 26, 2022

As painful as Joe Pepitone’s story is to read, it can be a meaningful learning experience for the wider Pagan community – especially for those of us who serve in the clergy or other leadership roles.

Column: In Defense of Unmindfulness

By Karl E. H. Seigfried | February 26, 2022

“In sports, music, and martial arts, the unbinding of the mind as it focuses upon a specific task is paired with a shutting down of other mental faculties. Senses are simply turned off in a subjectively very real way. Linear thinking evaporates as the Odinnic moment expands.

“Rather than mindfulness, this is a process of unmindfulness.”

Column: Beards, Baseball, and the House of David

By Karl E. H. Seigfried | May 30, 2020

Karl Seigfried goes looking for the history of an oddball traveling baseball team from the 1920s, and finds the troubling story of a cult of personality with resonance for modern Pagans.

Column: Jim Bouton, Pray for Us

By Karl E. H. Seigfried | August 24, 2019

Karl E. H. Seigfried writes about his unusual “patron saint” – Jim Bouton, baseball player and author of “Ball Four,” a memoir of life in the game.

Tarot of the Week

Tarot of the Week

Deck: Golden Black Cat Tarot, by Helena de Almeida, published by AGM-Urania/Konigsfurt-Urania Verlog GmbH.

Card: Seven (7) of Swords

The week ahead is apt to offer opportunities for seriously re-evaluating who is allowed into one’s life and access to private and privileged information and assets. Not everyone has our best interests at heart, nor is everyone honest. There is no fault in requesting to see the receipt before paying the bill, as it were. Discernment and the ability to take strategic action when required are likely to be key this week.

Conversely, self-deception and a refusal to recognize and accept reality are unlikely to make anything better and are more likely to cause even more grief further down the road. Keeping secrets shrouded and hidden from others will eventually be revealed. The best way forward is to reveal any dark secrets and own them—particularly before someone else does.
