This is a special review for me, because I’ve known the authors of today’s oracle deck from before and we’ve exchanged messages here and there. Readers may remember them from my review of their book, The Book of Forgotten Witches, and, if so, will happy to know that that universe has expanded to include more wisdom from the days of yore.

Both Balázs and Lilla have crafted a unique oracle deck that honours the power in folklore found in diverse cultures.
But there’s more to say about this deck of cards, so I hope you humor me and stay for the remaining of the review. (Pretty please?)
First of all, while it’s not mandatory to read The Book of Forgotten Witches, I highly recommend readers do so. Many of the figures included here are also part of the oracle, and with so much more space Balázs and Lilla can explore their stories with more depth and meaning. Getting the full experience gives an extra lawyer of understanding, enriching readings with The Oracle of Forgotten Witches.
I loved all the spreads I tried with this deck, but the Magnum Opus was my favorite by far, followed by the Pentagram and then the Hecate. The level of insight that I got, the details, and the way everything ties in together was incredible, not to mention simply helpful. The Magnum Opus is for sure becoming one of favorites. I’m saving the storyweaving ones for the future, although I’m sure they will work as good as the others.

I also mentioned in my social media that, despite the common discourse of tarot decks roasting you and oracle decks being sweet and kind, The Oracle of Forgotten Witches was the exception. I felt called out, even if still completely understood. I could compare this to when you speak to a friend that doesn’t hold back and doesn’t sugar coat anything as an expression of love.
All in all, this deck is an excellent tool for Witches who focus on folklore, oral tradition, stories, and the meaning behind them. There’s all types of elements in the deck, with characters, objects, spirits, and more. Working with these cards is a feast to the senses, a whole experience that leaves you with a new point of view.
