TWH – Many Pagan organizations, including the Church of All Worlds, Circle Sanctuary, Aquarian Tabernacle Church, Covenant of the Goddess, and others, have been organizing to keep our community safe from the growing presence of Christian nationalism and attacks on religious freedom. Recently, a coalition of Pagan elders, leaders, and practitioners has been working to form an alliance to resist the Christian nationalist/dominionist agenda. This coalition, now called Pagan Solidarity, has established a web presence where additional information is available.
Yesterday, March 19, 2025, Oberon Zell, a prominent figure in the modern Pagan movement and co-founder of the Church of All Worlds, released a statement about an upcoming magickal working as an act of resistance.

Zell referenced the work of Dion Fortune, who orchestrated an act of magick to prevent the Nazis from setting foot on British soil. In her letters, she tells of enlisting the support of many renowned occultists of the era, including Aleister Crowley, Gerald Gardner, Dennis Wheatley, and British Intelligence operative Ian Fleming, the future creator of James Bond. Fortune wrote, “The war has to be fought and won on the physical plane before physical manifestation can be given to the archetypal ideals. What was sown will grow and bear seed.”
Fortune’s objective was to halt the Nazi’s covert invasion plan known as “Operation Sea Lion”. The following night, Nazi leaders, gripped by an overwhelming fear of the British Navy, abruptly abandoned their plans and never launched the attack on Britain.
Zell and Pagan Solidarity envision a similar action. “I hereby propose and advocate a major campaign of Pagan outreach to other non-Christian (or perhaps just non-Evangelical) religions and organizations to forge a significant alliance/coalition to stand against the right-wing Evangelical/Dominionist/Christian Nationalist agenda outlined in Project 2025—to turn the U.S. into a dictatorial Christian theocracy (specifically Evangelical/Southern Baptist) which will have no room for anyone else,” Zell told The Wild Hunt. “I hereby appeal to major Pagan groups, Pagan Pride organizations, and Pagan Festivals to reach out to Unitarians, Buddhists, Hindus, Afro-Caribbeans, Indigenous communities, Shinto practitioners, Atheists—even liberal Jews and Christians—as well as to the LGBTQ+ community. We must unite to stand against the takeover by Christian Nationalists.”

Zell and his partner, Rhiannon Zell, encouraged Pagans to proudly display their beliefs through symbols such as pentagrams, Mjölnirs, ankhs, triskelions, and Goddess emblems. Whether through bumper stickers, jewelry, or T-shirts, embracing Pagan identity in everyday life can help demystify the tradition and showcase its values.
More importantly, community engagement plays a crucial role, the group advises. Pagans are urged to be active, supportive members of their neighborhoods by volunteering at soup kitchens, participating in local charity drives, and joining civic organizations like school boards, Chambers of Commerce, and service groups such as the Elks and Oddfellows. A simple smile or friendly conversation at the grocery store can go a long way in demonstrating that Pagans are kind, caring, and engaged citizens.
On March 18, Pagan Solidarity circulated a message from Oberon Zell.
“Mama Maureen and I had a long talk this morning regarding the importance of our taking immediate and concerted magickal action to thwart the outrageous and threatening agenda of Trump and his shadowy backing of Christian Nationalists, Evangelical Christianity, the Southern Baptist Convention, Christian Dominionism, the Wall Builders (‘The 7 Mountains Mandate’), the Black Robe Regiment, and the Heritage Foundation (‘Project 2025’)… whose collective agenda is to abolish the First Amendment and turn the United States into a theocratic dictatorship,” Zell wrote. “Maureen referenced the famous ‘Magickal Battle of Britain’ that Dion Fortune organized on Lammas Eve, August 1, 1940, to dissuade Hitler from crossing the English Channel.”
Zell’s message included a statement from Mama Maureen:
“Instead of surrendering to the chaos that has been generated by the many actions of the Administration over the last few weeks, our immediate magickal focus should be on stopping the Administration in its tracks and preventing any further damage of any kind to our democracy, our people, and the institutions of our country. Additionally, a mirror spell of consequences is needed to surround those whose behaviors are damaging our country so that their actions are reflected back on them. While good work is being done here, we do not have the luxury of being leisurely in our progress. This action needs to be immediate and powerful to be effective!”
“Democracy thrives on the principles of transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. When certain politicians engage in illegal activities, it weakens public trust and erodes the very foundations of democratic governance. Hesitation or complacency in the face of illegal actions allows damage to democracy that may never be fixed, making it all the more crucial that clear and firm steps be taken now to restore integrity and uphold constitutional values. Without decisive intervention, the illegal actions of a few can have lasting detrimental effects on democracy and its ability to function effectively.”
“When the house is burning down, you don’t form a committee to decide to buy a water hose or call the fire department. You take appropriate action at the appropriate time. That time is now!”
Zell emphasized the importance of this moment: “Our Pagan Solidarity coalition includes the most powerful magick-workers of our time—far more of us today than in 1940. The Spring Equinox will occur this Thursday, March 20, at 5:01 AM EDT. Most of us will be conducting rites of Ostara this weekend.”
“I call upon all of us to join together over these coming days in visualizing and enacting a Great Working to, as Maureen says, ‘stop the Administration in its tracks and prevent any further damage of any kind to our democracy, our people, and the institutions of our country. Additionally, raise a mirror spell of consequences to surround those whose behaviors are damaging our country so that their actions are reflected back on them.’”
