Pagan Community Notes: Week of April 11, 2024

Total Solar Eclipse 2017 [Pixabay

First, we have one more eclipse follow-up to share.

The charitable organization Astronomers Without Borders is gathering gently used eclipse glasses to help future eclipse viewers who may not have the resources to purchase them.  AWB connects people worldwide through innovative programs that are accessible to everyone regardless of geography and culture. Combining local events with online technology and a global community, Astronomers Without Borders is a leader in promoting understanding and peaceful international relations, while also supporting outreach and education in astronomy.

AWB Communications Manager, Andrew Fazekas, wrote in a press release that “Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) is collecting gently-used eclipse-viewing glasses from across the US and Canada to send to underserved communities and schools internationally for use in future solar eclipses… AWB, with the help of its many partners, have launched a continent-wide grassroots initiative to collect gently-used eclipse glasses to give them a second life before they unnecessarily reach landfills.”

“Through the enthusiastic support of local libraries, schools, museums, city governments, commercial businesses, and community organizations, collection centers are quickly popping up to ensure that as many glasses as possible are recycled,” he added.

This unique resource-sharing project is the second recycling campaign AWB is conducting, having had great success distributing hundreds of thousands of eclipse glasses collected from the 2017 American solar eclipse. Recycled and vetted solar glasses were sent to schools that were in the path of solar eclipses in South America, Africa and Asia over the past seven years.

AWB added,

This one-of-a-kind program helps to bring eclipse glasses to people who may not otherwise have a safe way to view the eclipse directly. AWB is committed to continue sending glasses to those who need them for outreach and educational programs around the world. Building a community beyond time and place, these recycled glasses are going to allow Americans to witness the 2024 Great American Eclipse and build bridges to individuals all over the world!

Last week we sent our  Congratulations to the Aquarian Tabernacle Church (ATC) on another successful Spring Mysteries Festival.  As we said, we heard that it was legendary!

Since 1985, Aquarian Tabernacle Church has celebrated the Eleusinian Mysteries in honor of  Demeter and Persephone. The ATC Priests and Priestesses spend months preparing for the festival, “working with the energies of the Gods and rehearsing the ritual drama that is presented over 4 days.”

ATC wanted to make sure we can all celebrate in the splendor and spirit of Spring Mysteries and shared an amazing gallery of images for our readers!

We are anxiously awaiting dates for next year!

Announcements

IshtarFest is back:  June 1 & 2, 2024!

TWH received word that “We are continuing Ishtarfest as an international virtual conference.” This year’s theme is “Passion & Strength: Sheroes & Heroes.” The content of this festival is Sumerian/Mesopotamian-based so that we can immerse ourselves and learn about our pagan roots in the fertile crescent. You do not have to be a practitioner of Mesopotamian/Sumerian Reconstructionism, though you will meet some at this festival for sure. The festival is open to all who wish to learn more about religious practices, myths, and beliefs 5000 years ago.

The organizers wrote: ” We have so many new presentations for you. There are opportunities for additional presentations.

Interested? Please submit a proposal.

This is Inanna and the gods of Mesopotamia; their passions run deep. In addition to traditional spirituality, feel free to explore deeper aspects of sexuality and body-positive empowerment. No nudity, but otherwise, let your imagination wander.

We encourage you and/or your group to write a class, a ritual, a cooking demonstration, perform music, or present any themed spiritual offering surrounding Sumerian mythology and culture.”

This is a virtual festival visit their website for additional information.

Tarot of the Week by Star Bustamonte

Deck: Blooming Cat Tarot, by Jen Brown, published by Cosmic Eye.

Card:  Page of Pentacles

The next seven days are liable to have a focus on opportunities that embrace skill development and education oriented on supporting financial security. While careful tending and understanding of resources is likely to be a focal point, an emphasis on approaching matters with a fresh eye is also indicated.

Conversely, there is the potential for procrastination that may have its roots in a lack of confidence, lack of preparation, or both. The tendency to daydream about future plans without addressing current issues may reflect a failure to explore why past projects and plans were unsuccessful.
