By The Wild Hunt | 21 hours ago

A team of archaeologists has announced the discovery of a monumental stone relief in Iraq depicting King Ashurbanipal, along with Ishtar, Ashur, and other religious figures. “This find is a rare and invaluable window into the spiritual and political world of one of history’s most powerful empires.”

Unearthing Power: Female Leadership and Building a Monumental Society at Copper Age Valencina

Forthcoming research on Copper Age Valencina reveals early female-led leadership, expressed through lavish burials and ritual artifacts. The site’s spiritual and political complexity challenges assumptions about prehistoric power, highlighting women’s central roles in religion, economy, and early social organization.

Does that “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” affect Pagans?

A sweeping Republican-led bill seeks to cement Trump-era tax cuts, expand charitable deductions, and reshape nonprofit regulations that could create concerns for minority faith organizations operating under 501(c)(3) status. A controversial provision allowing terrorist designations to some charities based on their funding and fundraising was removed from the bill this morning.

Review: “High Priest: The Father of American Witchcraft” by Jason Mankey

Jason Mankey’s High Priest offers a candid, compassionate portrait of Raymond Buckland — tracing his evolution from RAF serviceman to pioneering Witch — while honoring his legacy and confronting the myths, contradictions, and innovations that helped shaped American Paganism as we see it today.

  • Here we go again: David Brooks’s misuse of “paganism” as a cultural corruption
    By Manny Moreno

In an age where religious minorities — especially Pagans — already face real marginalization, suspicion, and in some cases, violence, Brooks’s carelessness, and by proxy, The New York Times's carelessness for publishing it with little editorial concern,  is irresponsible.

Pagan Perspectives

  • I Write Tragedies, Not Sins
    By Luke Babb

I have always thought of magic as the language that we use to speak to the universe. Many Witches use words of power, chanting, and sigils to communicate their intention in their spellwork. That is practical magic, intended to use language to work their will.

  • The Maypole Dance
    By Eric O. Scott

For most holidays we write a whole new ritual and there's no guarantee that any particular element will recur from year to year. I've been to Ostaras without eggs and Samhains without the names of the dead. But I've never been to a Beltane without the Maypole. That one remains.

Tarot of the Week

Tarot of the Week

Deck: The Field Tarot, by Hannah Elizabeth Fofana, published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc.

Card: Three (3) of Wands

The next seven days are apt to focus on advancing plans and projects that may call for dreaming large. Confidence in one’s ability to not only ride the wave of momentum that has been created, but to continue to devote energy and resources to maintain it is indicated. There is also the potential for multiple options for expansion to be presented that either may not have existed before or that went unnoticed. Dedication and sustained efforts have the potential to offer major dividends.

In contrast, while opportunities for furthering current endeavors may be available, the tendency to lean towards more conservative options has the potential to limit or even stifle growth. Unexpected delays are likely to cause frustration, particularly if projected plans for progress were unrealistic or not thoroughly plotted and researched. Taking extra time to fully assess plans and trusting the intuition can help to minimize possible delays and avoid obstacles.
