Pagan Community Notes: Awen-inscribed gravestone at Circle; Starhawk calls for action; Caroline Tully and more.

BARNEVELD, Wis. — Circle Cemetery, a national Pagan cemetery located at Circle Sanctuary, will dedicate its first Awen-inscribed veteran gravestone. In January 2017, the Awen was added to the official list of approved symbols by the U.S. Veterans Administration, joining the pentacle and Thor’s Hammer.  The upcoming memorial will be for Druid Dan Moeller, who was known as Oakbear in the Pagan community. While Moeller has the distinction of being the first to be honored with the inscribed Awen gravestone at a Pagan cemetery, he is not the first in the nation. That distinction goes to Wayne Laliberte of Texas (1954-2013), who is honored at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Texas in 2017.

Beyoncé, the latest female singer to be accused of Witchcraft: an analysis

TWH – Singer and songwriter Beyoncé is the latest star to be accused of Witchcraft. News stories published by online media sources and tabloids explain that former drummer Kimberly Thompson is suing the singer for using “extreme Witchcraft” to control her and her finances. The reports also state that the ex-band member claims that Beyoncé used dark magic to stage a campaign of harassment against her. Beyoncé has not made a public statement in response, and Thompson was denied the requested restraining order. However, now Beyoncé joins a long list of other female performers who have been accused of Witchcraft for one reason or another.

Finding the right deck for divination: a discussion

TWH — With Samhain getting closer and days getting shorter, many Pagans turn to divination outside of their daily routines. Tarot cards are one of the most popular and most common forms of divination found in magical circles. With the 100s of decks available, trying to find one that fits into one’s practice and spiritual life can be difficult. Star Bustamonte, who is a professional tarot reader in North Carolina and the writer of the Wild Hunt weekly tarot, offers her tips on how to pick the right deck for your work. The Wild Hunt: There are so many decks out there. Does anyone know how many there are?  How does someone, whether they are new to magical practice or just new to Tarot, begin the search for a deck?

Happy autumnal equinox

TWH – This year, the autumnal equinox falls on Sept. 22 at  9:54 PM ET in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the moment that officially signals the start of fall. At this time, there will be an equal amount of light and dark, after which the nights are longer as than days as we head toward winter. Outside of religious life, this season is well celebrated.
