Pagan Community Notes: climate march, Margaret Alia Denny, Buckland Gallery, and more!

TWH – The 2017 People’s Climate March brought over 200,000 protesters to Washington D.C. and smaller venues around the world. Saturday’s event was planned prior to the election, although many protesters focused on recent decisions being made by the Trump administration. Paul Getsos, the National Coordinator for the People’s Climate Movement said:

“This march grew out of the relationship building among some of the country’s most important progressive organizations and movements. In 2014, the march was planned as a singular moment to pressure global leaders to act on climate change. There was a simple demand – act.”

Paganism, DragonCon and the fantastic pilgrimage

ATLANTA, Ga. – Over the past 30 years during Labor Day weekend, fans from around the world descend on Atlanta for the pop culture convention DragonCon. The sprawling event, which began in 1987, offers its thousands of enthusiastic attendees four days of programming exploring a wide-range of pop culture fandom. From lectures and workshops to cosplay, gaming, and the famous parade, Dragon Con has become one of the largest fan-based conventions of its kind. This year, Dragon Con reported a record 77,000 attendees over a four-day period, and its parade was broadcast for the first time on local television.

Pagan Community Notes: Solidarity Statement; Declaration 127; Fallon Smart and more!

SAN FRANCISCO – In the past week, four members of the Reclaiming Tradition created a Pagan Indigenous Solidarity statement to show support for the continued battle to stop the building of the Dakota Pipeline. That statement begins, “We, the undersigned groups and individuals of the Reclaiming Tradition and other Pagan Traditions, stand in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux Nation, the Lakota people, and all Indigenous Peoples who are fighting to preserve and protect their homes and lands. ”

The writers then ask others of “Pagan and earth-based traditions” to join with them in signing the petition. To date, there are over 59 covens and groups, and over 2,674 individual signatures. The numbers are climbing and the organizers are listing the names on the support site as fast as time allows. In addition, organizers have suggested other ways to support the cause.

Pagan Community Notes: Margarian Bridger, Covenant of the Goddess, Warrior’s Call and more!

CALGARY, Alb. — Members of Pagan and Wiccan communities across Canada were saddened to hear of the passing of elder Margarian Bridger (1957-2016). Born in the prairie city of Regina, Saskatchewan February 7, 1957, Margarian was raised in Toronto where she attended the University of Toronto, Victoria College. She graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. In 1991, Margarian began the study of Witchcraft with the Calgary-based Covenant of Gaia Church of Alberta (COGCOA). A year later she was initiated into the Black Ring lineage of Branwen Stonecipher.
