I'm not all too convinced that the Catholic Church is trying to convert anyone by stating that demonic possession is possible through paganistic rituals or other forms of occultism. What they are trying to say is that one should refrain from dabbling in any of this stuff. It's like playing russian roulette, where you put a bullet into a single chamber of a gun. You then spin the chamber and press the trigger, hoping that you're lucky enough not to have gotten the one with the bullet in it. This analogy can be applied to dabbling with the occult or paganistic rituals. You're playing with fire.

Considering that over-enthusiastic exorcisms kill people with some regularity, most often children, this is a trend to be genuinely alarmed about.

Unfortunately, this isn't just a function of the Roman Catholic Church. Many evangelicals believe the same thing, that we pagans are possessed by demons that must be cast out. *sighs* My brother is, unfortunately, one of them and fervently believes that I am going to hell unless the demon is cast out. It's why I generally have no contact with him unless it can't be avoided.

Am I, a Neo-Pagan, more skeptical about the activities of demons in our ordinary affairs than the Catholic Church?

Am I, a Neo-Pagan, less worried about exorcising plaguesome demons back into the darkness surrounding our little human campfire than the Catholic Church?

Am I, a Neo-Pagan, willing to look more closely at the sociocultural dynamics of relationships than the Catholic Church?

It look like it. It's like the occult is being turned on its head. I got enticed by the possible influence of the unseen on human goings on. Now, the human adoption of the unseen influences makes me an occult-minded rationalist.

Are we having magic yet?
