Starhawk On Faith
The Washington Post has launched a new religion blog called “On Faith”. A regular feature seems to be panel discussions on religious topics, the first question has to do with interfaith relations.
“If some religious people believe they have a monopoly on truth, then are conversation and common ground possible? If so, what would be the difficulties and benefits of such a conversation?”
Surprisingly, one of the panelists is Pagan activist and author Starhawk. Starhawk weighs in from the polytheist point of view.
“I’m a Pagan and a polytheist, and our traditions teach that truth always wears many faces, and the sacred has many names and images, which function not like dogma but like poetry, to open our hearts and imaginations to the great mysteries that transcend words…diverse viewpoints and approaches to the sacred can broaden our perspectives and give us more tools for grappling with the uncertain and challenging future we all face.”
It should be interesting to see how Starhawk weighs in on future topics, and if other modern Pagan voices will be invited to become panelists. But in general, I’m pleased that the Washington Post even thought to include a modern Pagan, lets hope its a trend.
