Taking Syncretism to New Heights

Canada’s Chronicle Herald tells the inspiring story of violinist Gina Burgess. Burgess strove against financial and later physical hardships to become the concertmaster of the Chebucto Symphony Orchestra, and has played onstage with rapper Kanye West. The reporter also gives us a gives us a glimpse into her spiritual world.

“Burgess impishly describes herself as a “Parastabu,”a pagan-Rastafarian-Buddhist. Apart from teaching and performing, she finds the time to garden, make jewelry and study belly dance. “I have some moves,” she said.”

I’ve heard of Pagan Quakers, Christo-Pagans, Morwics, and Buddho-pagans (along with several other syncretic flavors of modern Paganism) but this is a first for me. So I guess this answers the question of what happens when a Pagan Buddhist marries a Rastafarian. I bet parties at their house are fun.
