Entering Pan’s Labyrinth

Salon.com film critic Stephanie Zacharek gives a review of the dark fantasy “Pan’s Labyrinth”, which after getting rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival is finally seeing release in America. Zacharek confirms the festival buzz by lavishing director Guillermo del Toro and the film with praise.

Doug Jones as Pan / The Pale Man

“Fairy tales have their roots in very old, very deep human fears, fears that Guillermo del Toro teases out mercilessly in his ambitious, glorious and harrowing adult fairy tale “Pan’s Labyrinth”…this is a true fairy tale, and one of the finest fantasy pictures ever made…”Pan’s Labyrinth” works on so many levels that it seems to change shape even as you watch it.”

The film opens nationwide in December, and it seems like film custom-made for a modern Pagan audience. A dark fantasy, a fairy tale that features old gods (or myths if you prefer) and tales. I can’t wait to see it.
