A Few Weekend Tidbits

A few things that caught my eye in my daily travels ’round the Internets.

Archaeologists in Ukraine have discovered pyramid structures that predate the Egyptian and Mayan pyramids. The structure seems devoted to the worship of a sun god.

“It is thought they were laid about five millennia ago during the early Bronze Age by animists who worshipped a sun god. The “pyramid” is in fact a complex of temples and sacrificial altars topping a sculpted hillside with steps on its sides.”

If you hated “The Craft” you will certainly not like the new film “The Covenant”.

“A marker for how far erstwhile action-filmmaker Renny Harlin has fallen, in the world of teenage witchcraft movies, The Covenant is The Craft without the personalities and actors, awash in earnestness and boasting a barely-distinguishable cast of brooding teen actor/models.”

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson warns parishioners to not dress like the “pagans”.

“In August, the Rev. Richard Rego, pastor of the Saint Gianna Latin Mass Community at St. Ambrose Church, 300 S. Tucson Blvd., posted his thoughts about dress in his blog. He did not attend the Pastoral Council discussion, but has strong feelings on the issue. “Christians must always dress modestly,” he wrote, referring to modern fashions as “standards of the pagan world.” “This is especially true when we go to church,” he wrote. “It is distressing to see people come to Mass in shorts and revealing clothes.” Rego said the main issues with dress are immodest or provocative clothing and inappropriate clothing.”

Finally, in the “too wacky to be real news” department, there is a press release from Christian publishers Agape Press. The subject: Witchcraft in America!

“I have written The Walking Dead because of the rise and social acceptance of witchcraft in America. We have entered the supernatural age of progressive interest and involvement in the occult. Satan’s ambassadors are very successful and extremely evangelistic, capturing spiritual slaves. I also believe Satanic worship, coupled with human sacrifices is widespread and happening now! New York’s Queens County District Attorney, John Santucci Claims he has evidence supporting “Son of Sam” killer, David Berkowitz’ bizarre assertion that a devil-worshiping cult helped him murder six people. Since his conviction, Berkowitz has claimed that he was a member of a New York-based Satanic cult whose secret members were responsible for shootings that killed six and wounded seven people!”

You can read more if you really want to, but I think you can guess how it progresses from there. So when you go out this weekend try to not snare any unsuspecting souls into “spiritual slavery”, and have a good day!

Interesting to about Rev Rego’ diatribe against “modern dress.” Well, I live in Tucson, not far from his church actually, and I’ll tell you that not dressing in shorts and short sleeved shirts in the summer here is akin to wearing a hair shirt. Virtually no one wears long clothes unless they work outside in the sun and don’t want to get melanoma. No thanks, Rev, I’ll just stay pagan and comfortable. I invite the Rev to go back to the long woolen robes of centuries past…

You know what I find interesting is if we think about the “olden days” those accused of witch craft were dressed just like everyone else, in dresses down to the floor. I think he needs to stay inside his happy little bubble and keep his close minded opinions to himself.
