Kinder Evangelism

The Sacred Tribes Journal (an e-zine focusing on Christian missions to new religious movements) has its “Paganism Issue” online now. Sacred Tribes is somewhat unique in that they really do attempt to distance themselves from the slurs of the past and try to evangelize from a place of knowledge and respect. Despite this, they are still a bit tone deaf in really understanding Pagan theology. Chas Clifton has the Pagan response all wrapped up.

I’m also curious as to why a Pagan (convinced by a Christian of the truths of Jesus) would convert to one of the evangelical strains of Christianity (especially the more conservative ones). I could see joining a liberal-leaning Catholic church, Quaker Christianity, Unitarian Universalist Christianity or the liberal United Church of Christ. Heck the smells and bells of the Eastern Orthodox Christians would make more sense than the Southern Baptists. I just can’t see a former Pagan attending a mega-church or taking James Dobson seriously. Maybe it is just me.

I once circled with a woman who became a conservative Christian, conservative enough that she argued about the Iraq war on line with her former circle mates

A subline is ‘Journal of Christian Missions to New Religious Movements’. It’s about ministering to the “unsaved” – evangelizing, if you will. Trust me. My background is with these folks. It’s not about understanding or ‘Live and Let Live.’ There is an agenda.
