Not Your Typical Liberal Democrat
If one needs proof that the UK is a tad more enlightened than the United States, one only has to look at the career of Marina Pepper. Pepper is a former Playboy model and Page Three girl who has entered the world of politics and is now serving as chairman for the Lewes District Council, representing a population of 93,000 people, from Newhaven to Newick. Oh, and she happens to be a second generation Witch.
“The former journalist and author of Spells for Teenage Witches represents East Saltdean and Telscombe Cliffs on the council and makes no secret of her pagan upbringing. Her mother Margaret Ayton is a witch.”
Imagine a former Playboy model in America getting elected to office, now imagine if that woman was also an open and published Pagan author. What do you think her chances would be? I suspect that even in the most liberal districts of California she would have trouble winning any sort of office. Of course in our country, sending out free copies of Pagan books is almost like a form of psychological warfare in some places. I look forward to the day our country becomes open enough to elect politicians outside of the dominant monotheistic norms.
