Music and Love
Wendi Winters writing for The Capital, has a moving portrait of Dawn Kittrell, a local musician who recently succumbed to a rare form of breast cancer. The piece talks movingly about her struggle and her faith as a Wiccan and Unitarian-Universalist.
“Dawn also found normalcy in her practice of Wicca. She became involved with Full Circle, a spiritual program of the church that mixes earth-based traditions with the principles of Unitarian Universalism. Dawn joined a small group of women who meet on the new and full moons and attended meetings with a women’s cancer support group. It also held healing circles in her hospital room. One member, known as Zannie, recalled: ‘One night after we ended the circle, Dawn put on makeup, modeled her new wigs, and posed for photos. She loved herself and could laugh about how she liked to be glamorous, even wearing a hospital gown.’”
The memorial service will be held at her local Unitarian Universalist Church. For more on breast cancer, detection, and preventative care, check out the following sites. The Susan G.
