Starhawk and Indie Rock
Brian Webb of the band The Constantines confesses to an admiration of Pagan author Starhawk in an interview at Pitchfork Media.
“I kind of got into this woman [author] named Starhawk, who’s kind of an eco-spiritualist. I don’t fully understand what she’s talking about, but still, she has a pretty interesting angle on the modern world. She’s written some fiction, but she’s also written books on, like, Wicca spirituality. She’s an eco-activist as well, and [the book] is all about the feminine side of one’s personality and how that can relate to the state of the world…It sounds very corny, but she’s a pretty interesting person. The first song on the record is sort of all about her.”
The song “all about her” in entitled “Draw Us Lines” and can be found on their latest release “Tournament of Hearts”. Music critic Marc Hogan says the song “drones over a single guitar chord, name-dropping San Francisco eco-witch Starhawk over pounding drums out of a pagan ritual.” Sounds as good a reason as any to check it out.
