What To Do With Sacred Cows

Progressive magazine LiP has put out their “constructively negative” issue in which the sacred cows of consensus decision making, gay marriage, organic food and pacifism are given a loving re-consideration. For anyone who has had to sit through a long consensus-based meeting this issue is like a breath of fresh air. It isn’t that any of these ideas or movement don’t have their merits, but the atmosphere in certain progressive circles becomes far too much like an echo chamber where dissent is allowed but only of a certain flavor.

Of interest to the religiously-minded they have an interview with heretical Muslim Michael Muhammad Knight, an anonymous meditation on persistent vegetative states and living wills, an interview with activist Derrick Jensen about rekindling our connection with the earth, and a talk with Irish social historian Iain Boal about accepting cycles of collapse.

Worth a look, pick one up before the summers over.
