I’m Flattered, Really

So what is the number one concern among Christian youth ministers in Missouri? Accurate teachings of the theology of Christ? Leading the way towards social justice? Promoting greater community interaction? Wrong! It’s Wicca!

“I recently had the opportunity to meet with several youth ministers from Southern Baptist churches here in Missouri. Each impressed me as having a deep commitment to biblical authority and personal passion for Jesus Christ. As we discussed the challenges facing current youth ministers, a concern all shared was the fact that many youth, including youth in evangelical churches, are dabbling in Wicca.”Alan Branch, BPNews

Apparently there is a Wicca explosion in Missouri! Who knew? Why is Wicca so dangerous?

“Wicca encourages sexual chaos, inter-generational conflict and violence.”

Rivers of blood! Seas boiling! Dogs and cats, living together, MASS HYSTERIA! Honestly I’m a bit flattered that we seem to deserve so much attention. At this rate it will be the evangelicals who drive people to modern Paganism, take that Harry Potter!

and why do we care? Every last christian soul, hel, even every last non-pagan soul could wretch, rant and spit on my spiritual beliefs and I will never care.

Every wiccan/witch who naively believes that their new “old religion” isn’t a patchwork of Rosicrucian, Platonist, Kabalist, Hellenist, Theosophist, classicist, christian mystic, Sophist, Alchemist (in a nutshell but there are so many more) ispired rituals and beliefs but looks down on others such as “solitaries” for not following “tradition” could wretch, rant and spit on my paganism and witch/heathen beliefs and I will never care.

Every blog critic that proves he is no better, no braver, no less afraid then a high school bully by showing his ignorance by posting an article that reduces wiccan and pagan beliefs to nothing more than an RPG could wretch, rant and spit on my paganism and witch/heathen beliefs and I will never care.

We do have a pretty decent Pagan population here, actually. There’s even a Pagan retreat place thingy in (ironically enough) Salem. So the fundies are freaking out over a real phenomenon (I first learned about Wicca while sitting on the steps of the chapel at my all-girls convent school).
But Wicca causes sexual chaos? Really? Damn, I must be doing something wrong…
