Won’t Anyone Think of the Children?
“You’ve got a defence to murder predicated on a teenaged girl’s “vampire fetish.” You’ve got the mother of both the victim and the suspect, an iconic modern parent so self-absorbed she dismissed her oldest son’s emotional problems as “lack of motivation,” even though she had once attempted suicide in his presence. You’ve got schoolchildren dabbling in the invented, trendy pagan religion “Wicca” — an unabashed cult of power, widely deemed semi-respectable.”
You can tell this particular somewhat socially conservative commentator is from Canada because he references Wicca as “semi-respectable” instead of “abomination before the lord”.
The Kids Are Alright (at least in Arizona)!
“I was dressed as the high priestess. This guy came up and asked about the dress. When I told him we were doing a pagan ritual, he asked if we worshipped Satan. I said, ‘No, that was a myth.’ He said, ‘Oh, OK, I’ll spread the word.’ I think that was one of the nicest things anybody has said to us” – Carly Foreback, Pagan and practicing Wiccan going to school at Arizona State University
The Children Are Demon-Possesed!
The Vatican is on the case! They know why the children are turning to sinister religions like Wicca, and you can learn all about it at their special class on Satanism, black magic and exorcism.
“One of the teachers — a specialist in youth culture and Satanism — said the attraction to the occult often arises out of loneliness, isolation and emptiness.”
Does the term “specialist in youth culture” give you the impression of someone who is actually very out of touch with “youth culture” but gives a good sales pitch to worried instituitons and parents looking for easy answers? It does me. In any case here is just one stirring testimonial from a priest in Nebraska who is taking the course.
“There is a growing awareness in our dioceses” of the need for exorcists, there are a lot more behaviors and lifestyles that are not of God, there’s a lot of relativism. Whatever goes, goes. There’s a big surge in New Age, pantheism, young people playing with Satanism, a lot of drug use, black magic, psychics are so big, pornography, MTV?. People are not searching for holiness.” – Father Christopher Barak
No doubt Father Barak will be better able to reach out to troubled teens now.
