(Founding Father) Quote of the Day

“Speaking ex cathedra, as a relic of the founding generation, he expressed his admiration for the Roman system whereby every man could worship whom, what and how he pleased. When his young listeners objected that this was paganism, Adams replied that it was indeed, and laughed.”Brooke Allen on John Adams in her editorial ‘Our Godless Constitution’

I always wonder what founding fathers like Adams (or Jefferson, or Paine, or Franklin) would think of our current obsession with “moral values” and religion. I mean, it is hardly likely that the motley assortment of Diests, Free-Thinkers, Unitarians and Freemasons who helped shape our nation would ever be allowed into the halls of government under the current “standards” that most elected officials have to mold themselves to.
