A modern Pagan perspective. Posts RSS Comments RSS

Uh-oh

This situation doesn’t look too good for modern Pagans.

“A teacher and a 14-year-old former female student whom she is accused of sexually assaulting participated in witchcraft together and even “wed” in a pagan ritual, police said.” – AP

The funny thing is that it looks like the teacher isn’t a Pagan at all (not that this would matter to the press).

“Miklosovic told police she practiced witchcraft when she was younger, but was no longer involved in it. She said she gave the girl a book on witchcraft, “because she knew she was interested in it,” Oppenheim said.”Grand Rapids Press

Already local Pagans are coming forward
to distance themselves lest all of Pagandom get cast in a negative light by this situation.

“Paganism strives for responsibility, a pedophile is a pedophile in any form of spirituality. I really hope the community will take the crime as the crime, and leave the person’s spirituality out of it. Just because I went to church with somebody doesn’t mean that played a real heavy (role) with the relationship.” – Jennifer Suttorp, director of Sanctuary of the Winds

Hopefully, we can distance ourselves, but the fact that the article is running on WorldNetDaily means it is only a matter of time before the right-wing feeding frenzy about “Witchcraft in the schools” begins.
