Aftermath, carrying on.
In the midst of all the post-election trauma, a quiet victory was handed down to modern Pagans by the courts who struck down the appeal of the ruling stopping the Great Falls city council (SC) from including “Jesus” in their prayers (they had the choice of rotating prayers or no specific religious reference but refused to do rotating prayer). Some however are already planning on taking it to the Supreme Court.
Also for some good post-election analysis from a religious angle check out the posts here and here and here and here. The left needs to reclaim religion and “morality” from the right is the short answer, hopefully we bloggers can flesh out the longer answer together.
Finally, I just picked up “Counter Culture Through The Ages” by Ken Goffman (aka R.U. Sirius) and Dan Joy.
“Although typically defining themselves in opposition to dominant cultures–hence the name–countercultures through history have more in common with each other than previously supposed. In fact, argues this book, breaking with tradition is itself a longstanding tradition, distinguished by Promethean antiauthority impulses, often accompanied by some sort of libertine humanism and individualism (although often conflicted about the merits of technology).”
I look forward to reading through it.
Also a final tip of the hat to fellow blogger MacRaven whom I had the pleasure of talking with over coffee on Wednesday. You would be surprised what a “Paleoconservative” Heathen and a progressive lefty Pagan have in common when you get right down to it.
