How They See Us
It’s time once again to look in on how the mainstream press and outsiders to our faith(s) talk about and perceive us. Here is the latest run-down.
Wicca is a “darker” religion. This is according to The Gorham School Board who have recently allowed a student to use school facilities for a Bible-centered project.
“Chairwoman Leona Guay was concerned with the precedent it would set, stating it would force the school district to recognize all faiths, including what she deemed “darker” religions such as Wicca.” – WMUR
Being Wicca is just a stage in growth towards becoming a “full-grown Christian”.
“Since his Wicca-phase, he says he’s become “a full grown Christian,” something youth leaders at one Hampton Roads church couldn’t accept because of his clothes. Now Justin attends Fox Hill United Methodist Church in Hampton, where the Monteiths are members.” – The Daily Press
We can also go on record and say that Protestant pastors are often “unfamiliar” with modern Pagansim.
” Forty-seven percent are familiar with the core beliefs of Islam, 43 percent with New Age beliefs, 31 percent with Satanism, 28 percent with Buddhism, 27 percent with Hinduism, 15 percent with Scientology, 13 percent with Wicca, 13 percent with Baha’i, and just 5 percent with Sikhism.” – Christian Times
Finally, where does modern paganism hide? Why it hides in the entertainment industry according to David Mamet.
“Where once the family endured the horrors of travel to expose the kids to the Lincoln Memorial in the hope it would “take”, now we find a propitiation of the gods of fantasy. Entertainment has supplanted art, which, itself, superseded prayer; and entertainment now itself begins to die the death and, like all that is organic, revert to a state of compost. We no longer enjoy entertainment, we pray to entertainment.” – David Mamet
