King Arthur Round-Up

As I have mentioned before, I’m quite excited about the upcoming movie “King Arthur” coming to theatres July 7th. Here is a round-up of recent press and reviews.

Filmjerk in an early review is not impressed.

“A more ?authentic? take on the legend of King Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot, Antoine Fuqua’s “King Arthur” is a dreary, poorly edited mess. By taking the magic out of the myth, the filmmakers have stripped away the very essence of what has made this legend survive the test of time, leaving a film striving to deliver thrills, and unfortunate in its timing.” – Brian Orndorf

Nor is the reviewer for icWales, Paul Carey too taken with it.

“In a nutshell, this is a movie that looks great but sounds awful.”

In general the advance reviews haven’t been all that great.

Meanwhile much is still being made of “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Keira Knightley’s strong agressive (and pagan) Guinevere.

“Of course we all read about Arthur in school,” Knightley says. “But I hadn’t heard the theory that Guinevere could have been part of a Celtic matriarchal society, where women fought on equal standing with men and would even lead the men into battle. That automatically makes Guinevere a really strong character. She’s no damsel in distress who gets passed around from man to man without much to say about it. She’s a very clever girl on a mis-sion. She’s a fighter.” -Keira Knightley

But hey, at least it seems nice looking. So it looks like a feature I’ll have to turn my brains off for and enjoy the pretty.
