And Venus Was It’s Name

A lot of press on the Venus Eclipse that happened today both from the science community and the astrological community.

What does it all mean? Well the hard science is this…

“Venus will pass in front of the Sun on June 8, and skywatchers in many locations around the world will have their first chance in nearly 122 years to see the planet as a black dot against the solar surface. The event is among the rarest of predictable viewing phenomena.”Joe Rao (Space.com)

Here is a good overview of the 1882 transit

For those who look to the stars for signs, patterns and portents there is another meaning (emphasis mine).

“Venus transits seem to presage great shifts in human consciousness and this June promises the same. If we look back at the last several occultations: in 1518/26, 1631/39, 1761/69 and 1874/82 we can pick up patterns. They all occurred in Sun signs Gemini or Sagittarius. Looking at the events of 1519, Magellan del Cano set about the first circumnavigation of the world. The impact on European civilisation was immense, showing clearly that the world was a globe. The Reformation began in western Europe and the age of female rulers came to Europe – Mary Queen of Scots, Mary I, Elizabeth I, and Catherine de Medici and all reigned then.”Richard Giles

” What will the new era look like? Some astrologers are predicting that the current use of cell phones and the internet to transmit messages and images instantly are only precursors to a time when we will be able to transmit ourselves just as quickly. Others say that intergalactic travel and communion with extraterrestrials and other entities will be as commonplace as email. Still other spiritual writers say, that we are heading towards a different and more liberal form of religion altogether.”Shelley L. Ackerman

“Faced with the astronomical feat last seen in 1882, brides may no longer prize virginity and Hindu ascetics may soon discard the time-old practice of celibacy as nonsense, astrologers said. The emotional cataclysm which will follow could sink stock markets, topple governments – or at least mar relations between spouses.”Sify News

Pagan Blogger Sage @ Goddessing has this interesting tidbit of information.

Mention Venus transit, and I’m there. The skeptic in me never adopted the pentacle as a personal religious symbol until I learned its origin: it’s a two-dimensional plot of the eight-year Venus cycle. OK, I said those many years ago, now I can begin to understand why this symbol is sacred, and to source it to antiquity and not some made-up-recently, cool-and-groovy, let’s-call-it-ours creative moment.

So what does it all mean? Perhaps it’s just a astronomical happening but maybe it’s the start of something that would be good for religions that worship the female divine.

I merely remark.
