Culture Shock?

National Geographic is presenting Culture Shock Week which supposedly “pushes the boundaries of “civilized” television”, and how do they push these boundaries? Well, they profile “Voodoo” and “Witchcraft”.

Here is the information text about the Witchcraft show: “Witches are often seen as quaint Halloween images. But they’re also revered in many parts of the world. Travel to Mexico, Africa and the U.K., where witches openly celebrate the spirit world.”

This program has apparantly aired before and takes a rather broad view of what “witchcraft” is, but if it is is a sensationalist take we can take heart that deaf people won’t be able to understand what is going on. Someday I’m hoping pagan traditions will get aired on “civilized” television.
