Word has come to us that author Bronwen Forbes passed away on April 10th from a heart attack, she was battling cancer and on chemotherapy drugs at the time. Forbes was the author of  “Make Merry In Step and Song: A Seasonal Treasury of Music, Mummer’s Plays & Celebrations in the English Folk Tradition” and the forthcoming “The Small-Town Pagan’s Survival Guide: How to Thrive in Any Community,” both from Llewellyn Worldwide.

“Just found out a dear author of mine, Bronwen Forbes, passed away last night. Her family and friends all mourn her passing, and her new book is on the way to the printer right now… as she would have wanted. So, so sad.”Elysia Gallo, Acquisitions Editor for Witchcraft, Wicca, Pagan, and magickal books at Llewellyn.

Tributes to Bronwen have been pouring in on her Facebook wall since her husband, Alex, announced her passing.

“May she go forth shining and my love and memory bless her loved ones.”Ivo Dominguez Jr.

Forbes was a co-founder of the Free Spirit Alliance, a spiritual networking organization serving the Pagan and Pantheist religious communities. In addition to her books with Llewellyn, Bronwen also wrote a humorous Pagan-themed fiction novel, and several pieces for Pagan magazines and web sites like Circle Magazine and Witchvox.

My condolences go out to her husband, daughter, friends, and extended family. May she rest in the arms of the Goddess.

I am so sorry to hear this. I have often enjoyed reading her articles on WitchVox. My deepest sympathies to her friends and family…

  • Dver

Hers was one of the few Llewellyn books that I really liked and respected. I was happy to see someone bringing more awareness of old mumming traditions back into modern paganism. Very sad that she passed so young.

  • Missy McPeak

I loved reading Bronwen's articles on WitchVox also. This is so very sad. My thoughts are with her family.

  • Matt

Her articles were the reason I checked the Witchvox every Sunday. Sorry to hear about this.

  • Jill Medicine Heart

I agree with Matt. Me too! Bronwen and I would exhange emails once in a while regarding Pagan Pride Day–going to miss her input. This so totally bites. She was a great asset to the Pagan commUnity. Bless her heart and her family during this challenging time.

I've had the honor in knowing Bronwen in person during her brief time in Wisconsin. Everything anyone has said about her is true tenfold. She is as warm, loving, humorous and wise as her articles show her to be. Our daughters were friends and her husband helped my husband find a new voice. To say she will be missed by many is a gross understatement.

  • May the Goddess guard her. May she find her way to the Summerlands. May her friends and family know peace. Her common-sense articles on Witchvox were wonderful.

  • How sad! 🙁

  • Jocelyne Berengaria Houghton

    Blessed be, Bronwen.

  • Stef

This is really sad news. I was in a Morris dancing class she taught here in Maryland many years ago…such energy and good happy fun. Bronwen was a really wonderful lady, and will be greatly missed.

Like Matt, Bronwen was the reason I would check Witchvox. I found her articles sensible, practical, humorous and well-written, always a treat. Reading them was like sitting down with a wise friend for tea and a chat. I just read her blog, and had no idea until now she had been suffering so much. Poor, dear woman. May the God/desses hold her family and friends in comfort and peace, and guide Bronwen to the Summerlands swiftly.

  • I've always truly enjoyed Bronwen's essays on Witchvox. I'm sad that I will have only her wonderful body of work thus far. May she continue to offer us wit and wisdom from spirit.

  • Bronwen was a wonderful, wise, warm, and witty person. My heart goes out to her family. What a heartbreaking loss! May Bronwen rest in the arms of the Goddess.

  • for those who would like to listen here is our last interview with Bronwen recorded September 10th last year

Blessed Be Bronwen, may you and your family be bathed in Light, Love and Peace.

  • I am happy to say I participated in Bronwen's book on Small Town Pagans that will be coming in June. She was such a witty "comedienne" in the Pagan world, just as Michael Lutin is the comedian of the Astrology world. She will be missed, and I wish many blessings of love and healing to her family in her transition to a better place!

  • Sue

I'm so sorry to hear this, so young! My heart goes out to her family left behind. I never knew her personally but I had emailed her a couple of times. Somehow the world is slightly less now she is not in it any more 🙁

  • Jeffery

Her articles were great. I enjoyed them much. Am very sad that she died so young, and that her daughter must now grow up without her. Much love to her soul and to the family. )O(

  • Jan

I always enjoyed her articles. I, too, wrote her an email with favorable comments on one in particular article she had written. She was so kind to send me back the nicest reply and thanked me for my interest. Deepest condolences to her family.

  • Lauren

Her writing was truly amazing and I know that many young or new pagans who found so much wisdom in her articles etc. which helped them on their path. I know I did. She was an amazing woman, my thoughts are with her friends and family.

  • LeAnn

    She will not be forgotten

  • I never had the pleasure of direct contact, but I well recall her frequent contributions to Witchvox. I hope her spirit informs us all in the future through the body of work she left us all.

I learned this morning that she had passed through the Veil. Bronwen's Witchvox articles were always a pleasure to read and the brief correspondence I shared with her likewise. She was a rare gem and though I never knew her personally, I'm saddened by her family's loss. May she continue to guide her loved ones and keep them from harm.
